Any senior high school golfer is eligible to apply for the Kansas Junior Golf Scholarship. Go to www.kansasgolf.org to download the application.

Summer Leaders Seminar at the United States Military Academy (West point) provides outstanding juniors an opportunity to experience first hand life at a military academy. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2009. Go to www.admissions.usma.edu to apply.

Kansas Boy's State runs from May 31 - June 6, 2009. This is an excellent opportunity to learn practical leadership skills through a week-long role play civic exercise. See Mrs. Shugart for more information. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2009.

The Ellis Foundation will be giving 3 scholarships to a 2 or 4 year college or university, $1000 per semester. Criteria: low income, 2.5 GPA or better with prefernece given to single parent familes. Apply online at: www.theellisfoundation.org, password is aksh09 and then click on forms.

UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance announces that any student wanting to be considered for scholarship consideration in these areas must audition by March 6, 2009. Go to http://conservatory.umkc.edu for audition dates and instructions.

Butler Community College announces their humanities and fine arts auditions. Are you talented in: art, radio, tv, newspaper, magazine, sports media, music, theater, or dance team? If so then try out for this scholarship. You do NOT have to major in these areas to receive the scholarship. See Mrs. Shugart for details. Over 200 scholarships are available. Deadline is January 20, 2009.

KU school of music and dance announces audition dates. For an application form, go to www.arts.ku.edu/musicdance. Students must apply for both admission to KU and specifically to the School of Fine Arts.

Do you or one of your parents have multiple sclerosis? If so apply for the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scholarship Program. For details and application information, go to www.nationalmssociety.org/scholarship. Deadline is January 15, 2009.

Any senior interested in the secretarial profession may apply for the KNEES scholarship. See Mrs. Shugart for more information. Deadline is January 7, 2009

KU Hixson Opportunity Award. Must have overcome a personal challenge and or financial hardship. Must be the first generation of your family to complete college. Deadline is February 1, 2009 See Mrs. Shugart for application form

Any junior interested in learning more about the training and responsibilities of law enforcement officers is invited to attend the Cadet Law Enforcement Academy, co sponsored by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the American Legion. The Academy runs from May 31 – June 5, 2009. Applications are available from Mrs. Shugart. Deadline is March 31, 2009.

Essay contest for high school students on Ayn Rand’s books. Any AHS student is eligible to compete in the essay contest. See your English teachers for more details.

Any senior interested in majoring in any outdoor science-related field (such as biology, wildlife management, environmental conservation, agronomy, animal science, etc.) may apply for the Pheasants and Quail Forever Scholarship.
